Here in the United States we observe Thanksgiving Day in November,
so I thought I would say "THANK YOU!" to the people who Run, Read and
    Enter messages on BBS's.

In the 30+ Years I've used BBS's ran on Commodore, Apple ][,
PC Compatiable and Other computers, I have learned a lot from Reading,
Making Comments, Asking Questions and also seeing what Others write about
in BBS Echo Conferences about various topics they know about or want to
    know (more) about.

Mostly about how to use my computer(s) to make my life easier.

THANKS for the many HINTS and SHORTCUTS about how to use my computer(s)
    to make life easier here.

And THANKS! for all of the GOOD non-computer IDEAS I've found in other
Echo's that I read, such as: Amateur Radio, Bible, Doctor Who, Space, etc.

I enjoy being able to learn and share what I read in BBS Messages.

    THANKS!

I'll agree to that as well.
People doing all sorts of thankless work behind the scenes keeping the
    boards running, etc.
People who only hear from users when something goes wrong.
    Thank you guys!

    Joe,

People doing all sorts of thankless work behind the scenes keeping the
    boards running, etc.

That's how I prefer to do the work. At a gathering of the Clive
Cussler Collectors Society several years ago (they have yearly
conventions in a different city over Columbus Day Weekend), the
president at the time, Wayne Valero, was the most visible. Bruce
Canfield was the treasurer, and he preferred to work behind the scenes.

When the members gave both of them a card of thanks, Wayne said
"Bruce's card is bigger than mine"...to which, someone immediately
yelled out "Size does matter!!" -- it brought the house down!! <G>

People who only hear from users when something goes wrong.

They expect the Sysop or moderator to fix it. Or they complain about something, but don't provide details...as if we can read minds, and
    perform miracles.

    Thank you guys!

    You're quite welcome. I'm sure you're the non-denominational type of person...but you prefer anything above a 20. <g,d,r>

Sort of like being a lieutenant. People expect us to be in two places
(at least) at once and to magically know how what is happening everywhere
at the same time. I musta slept through that class in lieutenantship
    school.

In this case size does matter. :)

I'll bet some put their utility bills in the plate. After all, he said

Dang, wish I had thought of that.
I'm reminded of a Ma and Pa Kettle film, the name I forgot. The entire Kettle family is in church, Pa on one end of the pew, Ma on the other and
the kids between. The plate is passed along the pew and Pa smiles as he
hears "Plink" from all the kids. When the plate gets to him its empty.
The kids had used a fingernail to make a plink noise on the bottom of the plate. :)
One time I had forgotten to sign a cheque and when the usher came by I
asked if he had a pen. He said no, and went on, only to return a few
seconds later with a pen. :)

You might still try it....NOT!! :P

LOL!! Or like the one where Josh McDowell noted "the only thing he got
out of church is the 25 cents I put in the offering plate, and the 35
cents I took out for a milk shake"!! <G> He originally was going to
write a book, saying Christianity was a farce...when he couldn't do it,
he became a Christian. I've read several of his books in years
past...but I'm not much of a book reader...although my late wife was.

One time I had forgotten to sign a cheque and when the usher came by I
asked if he had a pen. He said no, and went on, only to return a few JM>seconds later with a pen. :)

Yep. I saw a deal on Facebook the other day, where the kids nowdays
are always clamoring for the latest iPhone, or iPad. For the latter, I'd
give them something to put over their eye. <BG>

But, the pen I remember was the Bic 4 color pen (red, green, blue, and black)...I thought that was so cool!!

A neighbour one time had work done on one of his eyes. When he had a covering on it I said "Oh, you got a new eye pad". He didn't get it at

    Joe,

covering on it I said "Oh, you got a new eye pad". He didn't get it at JM>first. :)

I saw one cartoon where a ham radio operator went it for an eye exam.
When the doctor told him to read the eye chart, instead of saying the
actual letter, he said it's equivalent in Morse Code. So, "EYE CHART"
would be "dit, dah dit dah dah, dit, dah dit dah dit, dit dit dit dit,
dit dah, dah dit dah, dah".

The doctor was about to go out of his mind!! Apparently, this ham
radio operator used the Morse Code quite a bit...even though the FCC
dropped it as a requirement for a U.S. Ham Radio license in 2007.

But now, people are learning Morse Code because they WANT to...and NOT because they HAVE to.

The funniest story I ever heard on that, was 4 ol' boys sitting at a restaurant table in Annapolis, Maryland, telling each other dirty jokes
in CW (what ham radio operators refer to as Morse Code). This drop dead gorgerous, curvaceous, female, walks up to them, and admonishes "You
boys need to watch your language!! I teach CW at the Naval Academt
across the street!!", and walked out!!

They were as red as tomatoes!! <BG>
