There are more problems with athletes on campus, in general, than any
other group. They seem to think because they toss/catch/carry a ball or something they are immune to the rules everyone else lives by.
There were times one would do something and when I confronted them they
would declare "I'm an athlete!" My first response was asking "So?" then
"and your point is?" That burned them up!

We had a coach here for some years ago who didn't care about anything
the guys did, so long as they won games. ==sigh==
Thankfully that's not been the way the last 15 years or so.
One summer I noticed this one assistant basketball coach was always
taking a player to class. I asked why and he said otherwise the guy
wouldn't go. (He had to wake him up, dress him, drive him to class, and
walk him into the room.) I asked if he were a coach or babysitter and he replied he often wondered.

wasn't recruited to go to class. I was recruited to play basketball".

Sadly too often that's the mentality.

The kids are thinking, "Yeah, the 'rents are gone! Let's party!!"

Exactly. From what I understand though, there are routine
"inspections" at the dorms on the local campus.

The only time something like that happens on campus is if there's a compliant. The other students are quick to point out the odor of
"burning leaves" coming from a room.
And no need for a student to try and claim they were never in that room
what with all public areas on camera. "You weren't in that room? Lets
review the video..." :)

I can imagine. In high school, we had a co-ed dressing room in the
drama department. But, we were so busy changing costumes during plays
that we weren't worried about "taking inventory" of members of the
opposite sex...because our cue to go back on stage was imminent.

Sort of like in amateur radio. Former chief of enforcement, Riley Hollingsworth, was speaking at the national convention. He was asked if
there were any "real problem areas". He paused, then replied
"California"...it brought the house down!!

That turns me off to things like that...and that's what the fans want.
If the team is winning, the coach is "the greatest thing since sliced bread"...but, if they start losing, they want the coaches head on the
platter that the bread was served on.

Or they think college is "time to party". Former University Of Miami (Florida) Quarterback Ken Dorsey graduated with a double business major.
When asked why, he replied "In case footbal doesn't work out". He had a
good head on his shoulders.
