Well, there was an empty message here in the packet.... I'm still here,
and ready to read, but nothing's been here... I did send you a couple
replies before waldo's and docs had their issues, maybe I should find
    them again and re-send....?

I haven't seen anything show up since around 9/25, before the troubles
    began with Gordon, Florence, etc.

I went back and checked, and I last sent messages 9/18, 19, 20 and 21...
but they were all sent from Tiny's, so that must have been right after
Doc's went down.... His computer died, and he had to replace it...

OK... I dug them out, and am resending them in the next few messages....
5 to you, and 2 to Daryl....

Been having trouble with Mark's site and need to drop him a line
    about that.

Florence, and the power outages associated with, took out his RA bbs....
he's got the regular address pointing to his SouthEast Star bbs, which
    is using Synchronet software...

    Even Daryl's been quiet. :)

The last messages from him warned that that would be the case, what with
the weather forecasting thunderstorms and tornados... the move to his
mom's place... and his mom's health not good.... But hopefully he'll be
    back soon.....

He is actually moving in with his Mom in order to better take care of her.
He had said he'd be down until "November or January," IIRC, but he recently wrote and said he hoped to be back up by Movember 1.

Yes, I knew that he was in the process of moving in with his mom... but

going down fast, hence my concern....

I'm glad to be online again. However, thunderstorms on Halloween into
the weekend will put me offline for a few days. If it was just rain, I
    wouldn't worry about it.

I did get a 4 TB USB external drive today, and will back up the BBS
computer on it. The other external USB I think has 740 Gb, and I'll put
the BBS laptop computer backups on it.

I lost the power adapter for the WP LAN drive, but this will work
better. The laptop doesn't have as much data as the BBS computer does.

Well, with it being a USB drive and not one for the Ethernet, as it

Quite a few routers have a USB port and can act as a file server when you hook up a drive to it; otherwise, if the systems are available on the net, making the drive shared on the system that backs up the most to it and copying files over the network works too.

    Kurt,

Well, the workaround was "funky" but it works.

    1) An ethernet cable comes from the Xfinity cable modem to the LinkSys
EA7300 Router. The BBS main computer and the laptop, along with a
special "phone" for a deal called "Hamshack Hotline" are connected to
    the router.

    2) Another ethernet cable takes up slot 4 on the router, and goes to the
back bedroom where the cable modem, plus my Mom's computer, and the ADT
alarm system deal for the camera are, along with a "network switch" for
those. That second cable from the router plugs into the network switch.

This had to be done, as I had to put the cable modem into "bridge
mode" for the BBS to be connected to.

I've got a 750 Gigabyte external USB drive, and I'll use that on the
laptop computer for backups. I just bought a 4 Terabyte external USB
drive, and I'll use that for the BBS computer for backups. My Mom's
computer has a USB drive of its own for data backups.
