I wouldn't ask for them to put up with me, uh, put me up, for the night but if they offered, I accepted.
I always planned my trips so someone I knew was within a driving range.
There was the time or two I'd park the van in a chruch's parking lot for
the night and sleep there, too... But not being a guy, bushes didn't work
quite so well for me...

One time I slept in a wheat field in Kansas.
As you know there is a bad opedial problem in this country. I heard of someone who pulled off the road and put a note in their window "I have not OD'd, I'm just taking a nap". :)
There was a girl on campus several years ago whom I would find sleeping in her car each morning. She had pillow, blanket, etc. When it was class time she went and left afterward. Never bothered her once I knew she was ok.
