    That is an alias I did not hear/read before either ;)

    I looked it up on the link you provided and didn't see where they refer to "Code Page 437 MS-DOS Latin US" as an alias. In fact that page is seriously lacking in any usable information. However the onboard documentation /usr/lib/gconv/gconv-modules provided by glibc states;

    According to the above CP437 is an alias for IBM437. I checked with iana.org and they confirm CP437, 437 and CSPC8CODEPAGE437 but make no mention of IBM437 ... or MS-DOS for that matter. Anyhow the above information provides very useful information for the DOS-think fidonet sysops who are forced to use golded or msged to provide themselves a handicapped communication encoding for fidonet echoareas. Tsk, tsk.

    That is exactly the same. Absolutley no useful information. I don't see what use stating "Code Page 437 MS-DOS Latin US" provides. Would it be useful to golded+ configuration?

    It was because somebody wrote that he never heard of DOS Latin 1.
    So I provided that link from Microsoft to show him that there are people who call CP437 DOS Latin 1.

    I fail to see where it claims "Latin 1", although I have seen a few hits that claim CP437 as upper or higher ascii which of course doesn't really exist except in the minds of those who don't really know what they're talking about.
    However the particular link in question doesn't make such a claim. In fact they don't actually make any meaningful claim to anything.

    Yes but there were only two answers, one of which is wrong while the other lacking as to my true feelings on the question, not that it really matters in any significant way.
