    what distro have gcc 7 now ?

    i think its still pretty beta

    gcc 5 is QA unstable on gentoo
    gcc 6 is hard masked
    gcc 7 is missing on gentoo

    i keep 4.9.4 as the stable here

    we need you as gentoo maintainer, you dont need to sing like Dolly :=)

    As far as I know for sure, none. It just got released and is less than 24 hours old as we speak.

    Depends on the machine. I'd probably still be using gcc4 if we're talking older core2, pentium D, or original AMD64 like the Sempron I first started hacking pure 64 bit on way back when. I think it was gcc3 then but don't quote
    me on that. The best I achieved was on a Core2 and one of the first gcc4 releases. I stuck to all C code too (ie no C++). Extremely lean and mean that
    one was. Somewhere around 120-140M soaking wet with it's own compiler suite and everything else that really matters. These days I have trouble keeping it under 600M. :-/

    gcc4 was definetly an excellent series.

    we need you as gentoo maintainer

    I doubt it but thanks for the offer. I am positive they - whoever 'they' are -
    would kick me out in very short order.
