    1) Vertrauen is a ANSI BBS. You would probably have to logon to Vertrauen with a UTF-8 terminal so the BBS can detect that you're using a UTF-8 terminal in order to see it properly. I would imagine some (if not all) of the logon screens of the BBS would look good then either.

    2) Then you downloaded a QWK packet with MultiMail. I'm not sure if MultiMail (what you used to read/write your message) supports UTF-8. You seemed to have replied to a UTF-8 message with a CP437 charset, which doesn't translate properly.

    Regards,
    Nick

If so, using Golded in a Linux console, I'm super surprised that the rest of them displayed correctly (even Japanese and Thai!). Whereas my Windows NNTP client via Smapinntpd had quite a few more issues, most likely just using a font that doesn't support as many of the characters.

Still, a console font supporting that many characters is definitely a win in my book. ;)

Merry Christmas to you all as well!

Never mind. These three display fine here in my Windows NNTP client, but lacks in some others that Golded displayed fine. Again, most likely just font choice limitations. Just surprising that my console font supports more than this Monospace Windows font does.

Vertrauen uses heuristics to determine if the message contains UTF-8.
If so then it adds the UTF-8 kludge.
In this case the kludge was triggered by the ? with length sign.
