I must be a quirk of the Wilcat! BBS software
from the nineteens. It's great it at least
works.

wildcat and other old school systems force uppercase on names and some even on subjects... it is a coding decision from long ago...

Winserver (Wildcat 5-7) does not. It's the tosser that converts everything to uppercase and you have to turn it OFF on each individual conference on PX Config.
there was no tosser with the wildcat i got on a 360k floppy... it
forced the message header stuff to all caps... because of that and the lack of working doors capability, i refused to pay for it... i'm glad
i did as the $50 i spent for RemoteAccess was one of the best
investments i ever made... it had a lot more features and
capabilities, too...

I think V4 was when they decided to stop forcing everything into upper caps.
RemoteAccess was quite nice and I also ran it on a few nodes as an alternative BBS. I catered to everyone at one time I had 3 lines RA 3 Lines PCBoard and 4 lines Wildcat for a total of 10. Then Winserver
came out and all 10 lines went Winserver.

--- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5 * Origin: Fido Since 1991 BBS.DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140)
--- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5You have to go into each individual message
conference that's set up in Platnum Express and
tell it not to convert message headers to Upper
case.
There is an unchecked capatilize headers option
in mail processor / mail export options. Noth-
ing in the area settings.
Also winserver has an option to set each con-
ference as a "Fidonet Echo" but that's for fea-
tures never implemented. So it's best to set
it up as RegularMsg Base Public. If you set it
up as a "Fidonet Echo" it breaks the REPLY
kludge and it does not include it with the MS-
GID which is <cough> a FTSC No No.
I am running a pre Winserver version of Wildcat
5 with the internet connect pack.
Made that global change from Fidonet Echo to
Normal Mail Public and ran WcRepair on the
database.
[...]
After realizing that toggle hides the control
headers from Fido echomail body i reverted back
to "Fidonet Echo public / private" setting to
remove the control headers from the messages
body.
This is Wildcat 5 not Winserver so there may be
a difference in the two.
