I was wondering if there are any schematics out there, or if it is
even possible to duplicate something like an Lt. Kernel nowadays? I'd
really like to have a hard drive for my C64C, but my wife would flat
out kill me if I spent $800 on a hard drive for the Commodore. Plus, I
have heard that it is nearly impossible to find an Lt. Kernel and CMDs
    are rare.

I changed the kernell vectors in my vic,so that the machine used ram
as a harddisc. This is used today with SSD drives. But yes there exists
a device that uses the seriel interface to acces severel Gbytes RAM.
    And it`s relatively cheap.
