Hi!

I'm looking for information on the kickstart loader routine of an A1000. Are there any checksums done on the data read from the two first sectors of the kickstart diskette?
I know of the checksum on the kickstart diskette. A disassembly and/or information on the kickstart loader are very much appreceated. Where are the code located in memory, when/how, if at all, is it removed from the address space?

I'm at a VERY EARLY stage of trying to implement my own OS for the A1000. Any information towards that goal are very much appreceated.

btw: I'm not interested in joining some already existing OS project. I want to do this from scratch by my own, but I obviously need some help collecting the information needed for such a project.

What are you setting out to achieve with this OS ? Do you plan on
allowing it to be distributed & open source ?

Oh - mine still gets used - I'm able to afford all those things now (via
eBay) that I couldn't when the machine was new :-)

Just picked up another one, one with the replacement Phoenix mobo,
hasn't arrived yet, but looking forward to playing with it when it does.

cool! Would be kinda neat to do the same with mine. I guess my first
purchase would have to be a hard drive but I don't even rememeber what
options were available for adding one.

hmm, now that I think of it, I actually have two myself! But one (which

I want to make my own OS, but I want to start simple :-) It's a learning process + I want to renew my old 68000/amiga skills. Besides, my A1000 is collecting dust.....

got a lot of older games that work nicely on it that won't work on the
later machines :-)

I'm playing a game now and then.
I'm mostly interested in software/games 1985-1989. Strategy, adventure and rpg games were/are my favorites. I'd like to use it for coding. Good old 68000 coding with DevPac3 or ArgASM.

But nothing beats the moment I first saw an A1000 running Deluxe Paint, Sonix and the first animations showing off the Amiga. I think that must have been sometime in the winter of 1985/1986. 2 of my friends bought their Amigas at about that same time. I didn't have the money until may 1987 and got an Amiga 500. The A1000 I got my hands on MUCH later.

Agreed - I try wherever possible to preserve old application software,
much in then way of games has been preserved by many sites on the
Net, but not as much in the way of abandoned applications. If I'm at a
flea market or similar & there's old Amiga stuff available, I'll grab it & convert it to an ADF image. (Mind you, I also do the same with old DOS software too).

Nice! I'm doing the same for good old c64 games on tape. I've got close to 1000

i still remember the CLIMATE days

i once crated a bootble ram disk on a1000 just to see how fast it realy is, hehe it was ready in secs :-)

Not exactly - but it does mean I have two Amiga's set up & occupying desktop real estate - bit of a bugger really - but the same applies to my PC's, there are three of those set up too (XT, 386 & the Athlon) for the same reasons.
